Alice Houston Women's Leadership Program
A women’s leadership experience developed by the Leadership Louisville Center in order to accelerate and sustain the growth of women into positions of influence.

Organizations with greater gender diversity in management are more likely to have sustained profitable growth. Yet, women still lag behind men when it comes to promotions into management positions.

Research also shows that mid-level managers are critical in driving change, innovation, and results. This half-year cohort experience is designed to help mid-level women leaders master the dual role of leading others and managing up that can drive change and deliver results.

In addition to building management capability, this program tackles the unique issues and opportunities that come with being a woman in the workplace. Through reflection, coaching, and experiential learning, women in this program will build greater self-awareness, leadership presence, and resilience.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program is for women of all races, cultures, and backgrounds who have significant work experience, are over 30, are typically two or more promotions into their career, and need the skills to continue to move into upper leadership. There is no upper age limit for the program, as career advancement looks different for all.

This program is for:

  • Women with significant work experience and a larger scope of work and larger teams to lead. Participants are looking to move into upper leadership within their companies as their next career move.
  • Leaders who have a title like Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director or even some c-suite titles, depending on the size of the company.
  • Women who have already spent time investing in their own personal growth and awareness and have established expertise in many personal leadership competencies such as communication, inclusivity, and project management.

IS THIS FOR ME?

If you have established expertise in effective communication, personal branding, Inclusive leadership and project management then this program is a great next step for you. If you would like to further hone these types of skills then our Ignite Louisville program would be a great first step before embarking on the Women’s Leadership program.

Our curriculum, designed and taught by women with executive leadership and coaching experience across a range of sectors. It will strengthen critical skills and competencies, including:

This program gives participants access to a large network, while also providing the deeper connection of a smaller cohort. Following the program, participants have the option to become part of a peer coaching circle that they can access for years to come.

WHO IS ALICE HOUSTON?

Alice Houston was chosen as the namesake for this program because she is a smart business woman, community leader, and exemplar of women’s leadership. While she will not be facilitating or developing curriculum for the program, the Leadership Louisville Center will be teaching women to lead in her footsteps as an influential woman at both their companies and in their communities. Applications for the 2024 Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program are now open. Our selection committee considers experience, community service, responses to essay questions, and approval from your employer/supervisor. The application consists of two parts:

Sessions are tentatively scheduled to take place at the Leadership Louisville Center, with the exception of the opening retreat.

March 14-15, 2024 (mandatory overnight retreat)

DETAILS & TUITION

Time Commitment: Participation in the Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program program requires a commitment to attend each of the five monthly program days (8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) in their entirety (review the dates for the next class). The two-day overnight opening retreat is mandatory. Absence from more than one program day (or equivalent hours) could result in dismissal from the program.

Tuition: The Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program tuition is $4,900, which includes an overnight retreat at the West Baden Springs Hotel, and meals and materials throughout the entirety of the program.
