Why this Course

The capacity to express your authentic views, negotiate for what you want, showcase your business acumen, and share your ideas can accelerate your career as well as your team’s growth. In this session, we will start by examining why it can be hard to find your own voice. We’ll then show you ways you can challenge yourself and those you influence to amp up the courage and confidence to overcome barriers to reaching your full potential.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn how to grow self-awareness in order to find your authentic voice
  • Understand how gender, culture, and power structures can affect your ability to speak and be heard (and what to do about it)
  • Practice negotiation skills and using data to build the case for your solutions
  • Identify high leverage opportunities where speaking up can be most impactful

About the facilitators

Cynthia KnapekCynthia Knapek has been an active civic leader in Louisville for over 20 years.  In 2012, she was named President of the Leadership Louisville Center, only the fifth director the organization has had since its founding in 1979.

Before joining the Center, she was Executive Director of Brightside, an innovative public/private partnership that works to build civic pride and keep Louisville clean and green.  Cynthia was named to Business First’s Top 40 Leaders Under 40 in 2001 and recognized as Today’s Woman’s “Way to Go Woman” in 2006.  She was a founding member and the first president of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville.  She is a graduate of the Bingham Fellows Class of 2009 and of Leadership Network in 2006.

Cynthia is active in many community organizations and serves on the boards of the University of Louisville Alumni Association, the Mayor’s Commission on Public Art, the Catholic Education Foundation and on the advisory board for the Young Professionals Association of Louisville. Cynthia holds her masters and undergraduate degrees from the University of Louisville.

Lisa Zangari

Lisa Zangari is Vice President at the Leadership Louisville Center and is a frequent speaker at events and conferences around the region. The Center is a national leader in civic engagement and leadership development whose purpose is to inspire and equip leaders to BE BETTER and DO BETTER. Her work has been published in TD Magazine and in 2017, Lisa was also recognized as one of Business First’s 20 People to Know in Career Development.

Prior to joining the Center, Lisa spent over a decade as a management consultant in New York City, where she partnered closely with organizations to develop new products, launch new ventures and nurture more innovative corporate cultures. She’s designed numerous leadership programs for companies like AARP, Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Citibank, Disney, Hasbro, Pfizer, The Acumen Fund, The Hershey Company, and more. In addition to leading a team in North America, this invigorating work gave Lisa the opportunity to travel to Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe.

Lisa is active in several community organizations and serves on the boards of a local food-access nonprofit, and the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and earned her M.B.A. from Texas A&M University.

Zuri Johnson is the Leadership Development Manager at the Leadership Louisville Center, where she inspires and equips leaders to be better and do better through the design and delivery of innovative and effective leadership development courses, workshops, and talks as well as civic engagement experiences.

Prior to joining the Center, Zuri spent eight years as a training development specialist in professional development in state government with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). There she created the KYTC Minority Internship Program, spearheaded the first state-wide Diversity in Leadership Symposium. She earned her M.P.A with double concentrations in nonprofit organizations and human resource management, and a BA in communications from Kentucky State University.

Zuri founded her women’s empowerment organization, Queenly Behavior, in 2015 where she has facilitated learning and networking opportunities with Christian influences for professional and post-grad women to inspire passion and action steps toward their dreams.

COVID-SAFE PROTOCOLS

The Leadership Louisville Center will begin hosting its Leadership Green Room courses in person as of July 2021. We will be practicing all health and safety protocols as suggested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), federal, and state authorities including:

  • Social-distanced seats in our classroom
  • Masks required by all attendees and will be provided to visitors if they do not have one
  • Rigorous cleaning procedures and hand sanitizer stationed throughout our facility
