“We know that firms with more women in senior positions are more profitable, more socially responsible, and provide safer, higher quality customer experiences. Yet only 86 women get promoted to manager for every 100 men at the same level. Studies have proven that women have what it takes to be leaders, and we believe that bridging this gap comes down to skills, confidence, and connections,” said Cynthia Knapek, president and CEO of Leadership Louisville Center. “After years of addressing these through our programming, we’re excited to expand and deepen this work through the Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program. The participants will build skills that all great leaders need as well as address the unique issues and opportunities that come with being a woman in the workplace. We look forward to accelerating and sustaining the growth of women into positions of influence.”

Organizations with greater gender diversity in management are more likely to have sustained profitable growth. Yet, women still lag behind men when it comes to promotions into leadership positions. Research also shows that mid-level managers are critical in driving change, innovation, and results. This half-year cohort experience is designed to help midlevel women leaders, managers and directors, master the dual role of leading others and managing up that can drive change and deliver results. Since career advancement looks different for all, women of all ages are invited to apply for this program. While being a mid-level manager or director is a requirement, the experience of managing direct reports is not mandatory.

In addition to building management capability, this program tackles the unique issues and opportunities that come with being a woman in the workplace. Through reflection, coaching, and experiential learning, women in this program will build greater self-awareness, leadership presence, and resilience. Our curriculum – designed by women and taught by women – is centered around our Women’s Elevated Leadership Learning (WELL) Model. This model ensures participants come away Well-Grounded, Well-Voiced, Well-Connected, Well-Accomplished, and Well-Fueled. Through this structure participants will gain critical skills and competencies including:

  • Influencing Up, Down, and Across
  • Strategic Problem-Solving
  • Effective Communication
  • Driving Change and Results
  • Negotiation Strategies
  • Executive Presence & Leadership Brand
  • Inclusive Leadership
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Resiliency

This program gives participants access to a large network, while also providing the deeper connection of a smaller cohort. Following the program, participants have the option to become part of a peer coaching circle that they can access for years to come. The participants of the Alice Houston Women’s Leadership Program will benefit from mentorship with the influential members of Elevate: A Women’s Leadership Council, a strategic advisory council of top-level women leaders who are guiding the Leadership Louisville Center as it continues to invest in women’s advancement.
