Leaders in the news
We asked Craig Buthod (LL '00), Director of the Louisville Free Public Library, what it's like to be at the center of the Library Referendum issue. He told us:
"The public discussion of the Library Improvement Plan has been a great experience in civic engagement. More than the 5,000 people took part in the town hall meetings, surveys and focus groups that shaped the master plan. Another 14,000 people signed the petition to put the library on the November ballot. It's been great to see so many Louisvillians get involved in making a big community decision, one that will affect the city for generations."
Buthod has directed the Louisville Free Public Library since 1998, serving 700,000 urban and suburban residents.
Chris Johnson, President of The Leadership Louisville Center, will be featured on Metro TV's "Leadership Landscape" for the next three weeks.
Here's this week's schedule:
Tues., Aug. 28, 8:30 pm
Wed., Aug. 29, 6 am & 2:30 pm
Fri., Aug. 31, 11:30 pm
Sat., Sept. 1, 1:00 pm
Sun., Sept. 2, 11:30 pm

2007 Bingham Fellows spotlight need for math and science excellence in schools
For the past six months, this year's Bingham Fellows have worked to build public awareness and community demand for world class achievement in math and science in our schools.
Targeting parents, students, local corporations, and the general public, the group took their message to the
streets generating over 18 million impressions throughout the city.

The event culminated with the Add It Up! Challenge on August 11-12.
Saturday's events included the Add It Up! 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, followed by the Add It Up Science and Math Alive! Street Party.
Saturday evening, Add It Up! with the Louisville Bats featured a Math Rapper artist, and an "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" math and science quiz for all the fans on the giant video screen.
See photos of the Add It Up! festivities.
