Mark Stevens (LL '07) is the owner of Stevens & Stevens Delicatessen on Bardstown Road in the Highlands. Kenny Boyd (LL '04, LN '05) is the founder of Youth Alive! – a community program for at-risk children in economically disadvantaged areas.
In October, Stevens attended a Leadership Louisville reception at GE held in an area showcasing new appliances. In November, Stevens heard Boyd speak at a Leadership Louisville program.
When Boyd talked about serving an average of 30+ children a hot meal every day using a microwave and a hotplate, Stevens wanted to see for himself how they did it.
After visiting the Youth Alive! program, Stevens contacted GE and asked them to donate kitchen appliances for the Youth Alive! program. He then arranged for a friend in the construction business to make sure the Youth Alive! facility was equipped to accommodate the new appliances.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, a new GE refrigerator, stove, microwave, deep chest freezer, and dishwasher were delivered to Youth Alive! at 1351 Catalpa Street. Kenny Boyd’s words were “This is so powerful."
This is one great example of how the Leadership Louisville Center helps leaders "get connected". If you have a "get connected" story, please share it with us.
